A 72-year old artist who flawlessly designed fake RMB notes without a computer is caughtPosted: 02/7/2013 12:26 pm
It was reported yesterday by English-language media that 37 people had been arrested in a money counterfeiting case in Guangdong Province. They had been responsible for printing fake bank notes worth a total of 210 million yuan.
Police later discovered that the man responsible for designing the notes was a 72 year-old Shantou man surnamed Peng who designed them flawlessly without the aid of a computer.
The printing device that the criminals used was itself worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, but none of it would have been possible without the artistry of Peng.
Peng, who had been in the police’s sights since 2009, was not stoic upon being caught. When he knew the game was up, he went to a Buddhist temple to pray for half a day before returning home, Southern Metropolis Daily reports.
Because he was so cunning, Peng was the last of the suspects to be caught, police told the paper.
