Dozens of snakes let loose in Guangzhou, some hit by cars and others missing

Posted: 12/10/2012 5:09 pm

Snakes are on the loose near the campus of Guangzhou University, haunting students.

A student first saw around 50 to 60 snakes on Huanma Road outside the campus of Guangzhou University on Saturday (December 8), according to Guangzhou Daily. While some were hit and killed by cars, several animal control people lead an effort to catch the snakes beginning around 10am. It was later verified that the snakes weren’t poisonous (whew).

In total, it’s expected at least 100 snakes were set loose, with many either being turned to roadkill, scurrying off into the nearby grass, or being caught by animal control authorities.

An investigation has been launched because there are suspicions the snakes were let loose deliberately.

If you happen to see one of these guys on campus, the advice is to avoid grabbing or “provoking” them in any way.  Just let campus security know.
