These are hardly common around the world. Who in the West think that Filipinos are barbarians? Or that Indians are narrow-minded? Who in Asia think Italians are inefficient and undisciplined? Some of the finest scholarship I have ever seen--and scholarship requires the highest efficiency and discipline--comes out of Italian universities! (If only China could make the same boast.) OK, true, many people enjoy pegging the Irish with the stereotype of being drunks. But with Finns, Swedes, Welshman--not to mention Koreans and northern Chinese--competing for elbow space at the bar, you'd easily forget the Irish! These 'stereotypes' are neither hilarious nor mundane. They're just stupid. And we’re back to step 1: You need to get out more. These are hardly common around the world. I believe these stereotypes are held to a certain extent by many people around the world, but I certainly don't agree with any of them. Okay, then we’re in agreement.

And if you read my post above, I didn't find them hilarious. I find the whole article to be poorly thought out. However, that said, I disagree that they are commonplace. Perhaps you're just a bigot. But I was also wondering if you could address why you, unlike me, found these Chinese stereotypes to be hilarious - I found them to be quite commonplace, actually. Sure, of course. You might need one of those public service messages for closeted gay teenagers: "It does get better!" It begins with accepting a job outside of the north... Sarcasm and despair all in one post! They're all otherworldly spirits with a dark disposition. (I mean, America's the racist country. Chinese aren't racist at all, right? Right?)
