Especially considering it was said in a country where the "N-" word can get you arrested. It's a bit of a nonsense to say that political correctness has gone mad when you have Jeremy Clarkson, one of the BBC's best paid employees, using the word "slope" and getting away with it. I guess the UK is full of "uncultured" people too or are they just racists? Indeed it could be worse. I still prefer first-tier cities where you have a higher chance of meeting the more 'cultured.' It is rather frustrating when people ask you to be friends just so you can teach them English for free. Subtle-sophisticated social skills go a long way in friendship. True, guys like that aren't mean-spirited. But it's simply not cool to ask for my phone number while I'm waiting in line at the supermarket trying to listen to my ipod (unless of course you are an attractive woman, a blog subject for another time perhaps). Sure there's an element of selfishness to all human interactions but let's actually learn how to like each others company a bit... Lu Xun is so eminently quotable. Looking up or down, negative or positive connotations, it's true that doesn't work at all. I think relationships with Chinese go best when it's just not that big a deal that you're a foreigner; hang out with me as a common individual who happens to live in this country. I'm not a token please. And quoting Hitler as well? These blogs are getting more and more ambitious. Like it.
