Two babies with serious illnesses were found abandoned in Shenzhen within a few days of each other. Both were taken to Longhua People’s Hospital, Yangcheng Evening News reported yesterday.

One baby was found by a street cleaner near Meilinguan bus stop in Futian District on Sept. 1. She had a number of needle wounds on her head, Cantonese-language media reported.

The cleaner found a milk bottle and a packet of diapers next to the baby but there was no sign of any parents so she called the police. Cops from Minzhi Police Station then took the baby to Longhua Hospital where a doctor confirmed that she had a hereditary heart condition and that the needle wounds on her body suggested that the 3-month old infant had already received a lot of medical treatment in early life.

Police speculated that the family may have given the baby up because they were unable to afford the medical treatment.

Next to the baby in hospital when reporters from the paper arrived was a 1 year-old who had been found under a bridge near Yousong Police Station two days earlier. Tests confirmed that the baby girl had cerebral palsy.

When the babies no longer need hospital treatment, they will be sent to an orphanage.
