A “Chinese thumbelina” weighing just 800g was born at No.1 Affiliated Hospital of Ji’nan on October 15 after a 28-week gestation, Yangcheng Evening News reports.

She is the parents’ third baby after the first two died in infancy.

To get an idea of how tiny she is, look at it this way. Altogether she is about the size of two adults’ hands and her arms and legs are about as thin as your fingers. At this stage, she must be hooked up to dialysis machines at all times.

Her father is a migrant worker from Hunan who works as a delivery man in Guangzhou. Her mother comes from Guangxi and has severe hypertension and nephropathy.

A lot must be done to keep this tiny person alive. The family cannot afford the RMB150,000-200,000 it will take to keep her alive for the next four months. But the father, Mr. He, said money isn’t a problem. “I will do whatever it takes to save my kid,” he said.
