And as if to sweeten the deal, a new soft sleeper high-speed route connecting Shanghai with Guangzhou and Shenzhen has been announced.

The new route, which launched New Year’s Day, departs at 8pm and arrives the following day at 7am. Tickets cost RMB 700 for the Shanghai-Shenzhen leg, and RMB 800 to get to Guangzhou.

Each train will have rooms accommodating two or four passengers, and will have a 24 hour dining car. Despite recent reforms on advance ticket sales, tickets sales are currently limited to 30 days in advance.
