A man in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District who assaulted two passers by was shot by police this morning. After 120 was called, he died in hospital from his wounds, Guangzhou Daily reports on its microblog.

The man stormed down the road with a knife and attacked a 45 year-old pedestrian and the owner of a local scrap shop. Both of his victims are in a stable condition. After repeated warnings, police shot him in the thigh. He was rushed to hospital but later died of his wounds.

Earlier this year, an image of a Guangzhou cop pulling a gun on a driver went viral.

This sparked much debate about the use of guns in a country where many police do not carry firearms.
