Shenzhen weekend: comedy, The Fuzz, furniture exhibition, and women’s networking

The weather has really warmed up, so you owe it to yourself to get out there before it gets humid and unbearable. Here are some possible choices:

Mar. 21st – Friday Frisbee Throwing Training by the SZUPA – This week, the SZUPA will be moving the normally Thursday Throw to Friday for you to learn the basics of throwing and catching a frisbee.

Mar. 21st - Professional Women’s Happy Hour by love, Shenzhen – love, Shenzhen is rounding up all the ladies for a great night out of networking @ The Tavern.

Mar. 22nd - 29th Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition (SIFE) – The SIFE will take place on March 29th at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. The biggest furniture exhibition in China where professionals in the industry and those just interested in furniture can meet each other and see the new trends.

Mar. 22nd - LIVE English Standup Comedy show @ Luna Bar! – Live English Standup Comedy is BACK and the great comedian Vivek is returning to destroy. Get your tickets while you can!

Mar. 22nd – 2014 Post Punk Band The Fuzz Love Hate Tour @ B10 Live – Post Punk Rock Band the Fuzz, make their tour debut this Saturday at B10 Live!

Mar. 23rd - Ultimate Frisbee in Futian! Sunday Pickup 12:30PM @ Bianfang – The SZUPA meet every Sunday to play Ultimate Frisbee. This week we will meet 12:30PM at the Bianfang football pitches. Afterwards we’ll have food and drinks together at Frankies American Bar.

Shenzhen weekend: Icelandic trip hop, fencing, speed networking, improv and more

This gloomy week of bad weather demands some fun this weekend, so here’s what’s happening:

Mar. 13th – Thursday Frisbee Throwing Training by the SZUPA – Join the SZUPA Thursdays if you’d like to learn the basics of throwing and catching a frisbee.

Mar. 15th – Iceland Trip-Hop Band Bang Gang 2014 China Tour – Icelandic Trip Hoppers are set to ignite the B10 stage this Saturday.

Mar. 15th – Improv Comedy Workshop – Play some games and learn some acting skills from some aspiring improv comedians.

Mar. 15th – Adult Fencing Class – Learn to handle yourself in a fencing match. You never know when you’ll be challenged on the mean streets of Shenzhen to a sword match. Joking aside this sounds like a fun break from the norm.

Mar. 16th - Shenzhen Speed Networking Club – If your interested in meeting lots of people in an efficient organized way, this event might be the one for you.

Mar. 23rd - Ultimate Frisbee in Futian! Sunday Pickup 12:30PM @ Bianfang – The SZUPA meet every Sunday to play Ultimate Frisbee. This week we will meet 12:30PM at the Bianfang football pitches. Afterwards we’ll have food and drinks together at Frankies American Bar.

Shenzhen weekend: Valentine’s Day specials, tunnel rave, and music fest

Almost everyone is back and people have started work, but now Valentine’s Day is almost here so make sure you have your romantic dinner and present ready. In the meantime, here’s what’s happening this weekend:

Feb. 13th – Thursday Frisbee Throwing Training by the SZUPA – Join the SZUPA Thursdays if you’d like to learn the basics of throwing and catching a frisbee.

Feb. 14th - Celebrate Valentines Day at The Tavern Sports Bar & Grill – Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the newly-revamped Seaworld at The Tavern on Valentine’s day.

Feb. 14th - Valentine’s Day Special @ Willy’s Crab Shack – Buy-one-get-one-free king crab and a free bottle of red and white wine? That’s real love.

Feb. 14th - Be My Valentine @ Le Bistro (Cindy’s) – Valentine’s Day set menu @ Le Bistro offering a delicious meal for two for 568RMB.

Feb. 14th – Valentine’s Set Dinner @ McCawley’s Shekou & Peninsula – McCawley’s Shekou and Penninsula both have different offerings for Valentine’s Day. Choose whichever suits you the best.

Feb. 14th - A Valentine’s Dinner at Milano Italian Restaurant – Milano’s is my favorite Italian restaurant in Shenzhen. If you’d like a romantic setting with delicious food, you’ve found the perfect place.

Feb. 15th – Shenzhen School Music Festival – Ten Shenzhen school bands and one band from Guangzhou will be performing in B10 Live. Sounds very interesting to see the development of new music in the PRD.

Feb. 15th - NÜ YEAR Tunnel Rave presented by The Real Deal – Another rave by The Real Deal boys at the IKEA Tunnels.

Feb. 16th – Ultimate Frisbee in Futian! Sunday Pickup 1:00PM @ Bianfang – The SZUPA meet every Sunday to play Ultimate Frisbee. This week they will meet 1:00PM at the Bianfang pitches.

Shenzhen this weekend: Qipao night, live jazz, Australia Day, and open mic

Shenzhen is slowly but surely emptying as people migrate across the country for Spring Festival. If you’re still around, there are a few things you can still do. Here’s what’s happening:

Jan. 23rd – Thursday Frisbee Throwing Training by the SZUPA – The SZUPA is an organization with the goal of spreading the sport of Ultimate frisbee to Shenzhen and China. They meet weekly for many activities related to their sport as well as social activities to reach out to the Shenzhen Community. Join them tonight if you’d like to learn the basics of throwing and catching a frisbee.

Jan. 24th – One Night in Shanghai @ Shang Bar – Enjoy Shanghai culture and fashion at Shang Garden Bar. This saturday they’ll be celebrating the chinese dress called the Qipao and featuring classic Shanghai music.

Jan. 25th – Gypsy Jazz @ Blu Bamboo – Blu Bamboo is a bar growing in popularity for live music in Shekou. If your night is empty here’s a good filler for some nice live jazz.

Jan. 26th – Australia Day 2014 @ Boomerang bar – If you’re an Aussie and want to celebrate your country’s birthday, Boomerang Bar at Coastal City wants you there to take part in the fun.

Jan. 26th – Open Mic @ La Casa – Join Shenzhen’s original weekly Open Mic Night at La Casa.

Shenzhen weekend: Standup comedy, book exchange, hiking, and rooftop party

Shenzhen has some interesting new things to do this weekend. Here’s what’s happening:

Jan. 17th – English Stand up Comedy Open Mic in Farsome – Farsome will start offering an Open Mic for wannabe comedians at their space in OCT Loft. Come out join the fun and test out your material.

Jan. 17th - GUIGUISUISUI Live @ Brown Sugar Jar – One man DIY punk/blues/horror artist GUIGUISUISUI will be playing in Shenzhen. Go check him out.

Jan. 18th - Book Exchange and Networking – This Saturday a new networking group starts with it’s first activity. Exchange will be hosting a book exchange at Captain Bar in Nanshan. Cheap drinks. Books, and lots of people to meet.

Jan. 18th – Psy Tribe TranceFormation @ O!Garden – A group of DJ’s will be blasting Trance music on the rooftop bar called O! Garden. In addition to the trippy sound they’ll be adding lots of visual elements to really set the mood.

Shenzhen offers you a wide variety of activities this weekend. Here’s what’s happening:

Jan. 10th - Open Mic Night @ XPATS – Open Mic is every Friday at XPATS. Come enjoy a beer, and keep drinking those beers till you have the courage to go up to perform.

Jan. 11th – Saturday Brunch with Uber! – Uber, the popular car service that delivers you an Audi at the touch of a button through the use of an app, has been hosting events throughout Shenzhen recently to get people using their service. Here’s one more. Uber is hosting a free brunch at Fresco International Tapas in Shekou. Just use Uber to take you there.

Jan. 11th - Planet Factory Improv Comedy Presents: GRANDE FINALE FAREWELL SHOW! – After a year of putting on entertaining improv comedy, The Planet Factory is calling it quits, but before they do they want to have one last show. Here’s your last chance.

Jan. 11th - Sunday Ultimate Frisbee by the SZUPA – Join a growing group of expats and local Chinese players play the fast growing international sport: Ultimate.

Jan. 11th – Tenishia @ Pepper Club – 1st YEAR ANNIVERSARY World’s #49 DJ – Pepper Club celebrates it’s 1 Year Anniversary by inviting DJ Tenishia, a DJ ranked #49 out of 100 in the world.

Jan. 11th – The Real Deal Presents – Warehouse Rave – The Real Deal Inc is bringing you another one of their popular raves. This time however they’ve found their way out of the tunnels of IKEA and traded up for using a warehouse in Che Gong Miao. Good music, cheap drinks, and lots of buzz for this event make me think you need to be there this Saturday.

Jan. 3rd – Saturday Salsa Night @ Curv Bar – Make your way down to Curv bar for some Salsa with the Fun Salsa Club.

Jan. 3rd – Japanese Legendary Improvising Drummer Sabu Toyozumi @ B10 Live – Let Sabu beat away your boardom this weekend on his drums. A professional famous improvisational drummer from Japan.

Jan. 4th – 2014 Shenzhen Tennis Open – The Shenzhen Open is coming to an end. Come see Li Na defend her title in the 2014 Shenzhen Open as she competes for $500,000.

Jan. 4th – Tap Dance: Rhythm of the Dance – Come experience some true Irish culture through storytelling by song and dance.

Jan. 5th - Sunday Ultimate Frisbee by the SZUPA – Join a growing group of expats and local Chinese players play the fast growing international sport: Ultimate.

Christmas is almost here! Lots of Christmassy things are starting to pop up around the city. Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

Dec. 19th – Learn to throw a frisbee by the SZUPA – The SZUPA aims to spread the sport of ultimate frisbee to Shenzhen and China. Members meet weekly for many activities related to the sport as well as social activities to reach out to the Shenzhen Community. Join tonight if you’d like to learn the basics of throwing and catching a frisbee. It’s cold so dress warm and bring some hot chocolate!

Dec. 19th – Inner Journey – Meditation with Rose Lv - Join Rose as she leads you in some techniques to reduce stress from the busy lifestyle of Shenzhen.

Dec. 20th - Grand Opening of Seaworld Plaza – After endless construction, Seaworld is finally ready for it’s grand opening. It’s definitely worth a look as they did a great job modernizing it. It looks beautiful. I’m sure this will be a great event to be a part of.

Dec. 20th - Pre-Christmas Party @ Shang Garden Bar – Time to celebrate Christmas with DJ’s and drinking! Also a Lucky Draw!

Dec. 21st - The Official Shenzhen Santacon – Travel around Shenzhen in a Santa costume (provided) and give out gifts to kids while drinking and taking pics. Merry Christmas!

Dec. 21st - Darkside of the BASS – White Cat brings you another drum and bass filled night at Cafe 5. Cheap drinks and good music. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.

Dec. 22nd - Christmas Toys for Needy Children Project – Donate some toys for children in need. Do something good for others this holiday season. Bring your toys Baia’s restaurant in Sea World.

Nov. 7-12th - 8th Annual Shenzhen Oktoberfest - The Oktoberfest at The Venice hotel is one of the most anticipated parties of the year offering great entertainment and lots of delicious foods. Don’t miss it.

Nov. 8th – Adidas Originals Electronic Party Series – “Superstars” Featuring Jack Beats @ Pepper Club – Club Pepper continues to be an important club in Shenzhen drawing in international DJs and throwing popular themed events. Check them out as they take part in a Nationwide DJ series presented by Adidas featuring Jack Beats supported by Wonky Kong DJs.

Nov. 9th - Coaster Raid – Explore all of Shekou- Join Coaster Raid as they further explore the ever-changing city of Shenzhen. This time they focus on Shekou. Time to find out if it’s more than just expat bars and restaurants.

Nov. 9th - Tunnel Rave Presented by The Real Deal Inc - The Real Deal Inc continues their series of rave parties in Shenzhen’s now not-so-secret IKEA tunnels. People do love to party in the dark.

Nov. 10th - FRANKIE’S 2nd Annual Marine Corps Birthday Party – Frankie’s is Shenzhen’s most authentic American bar offering quality food and drinks. Come celebrate the birth of the United States Marine Corps.

Halloween Rock Fest, boat parties and free pizza in Shenzhen this weekend

Halloween’s almost here, but that’s not the only reason to get your party on this weekend. Check out what’s happening:

Oct. 25th - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Seminar by Wang Sheng Fight Club – Wang Sheng Fight Club is a martial arts school and club here in Shenzhen. Join them this Friday to experience one of the best coaches in the world teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Oct. 25th - Internations Oktoberfest @ Hana Pizza – The Social Network Internations has many activities for people to meet each other in Shenzhen, usually at very beautiful venues around the city with the goal of helping expats mingle. This month’s event is no different, but now they’re throwing in all you can eat pizza and drinks.

Oct. 25th-26th – Halloween Rock Festival – Get set for the Shenzhen Halloween Rock Festival!

Oct. 26th - End of Summer Boat Party @ Da Ya Bay – Boat parties seem much more common in Hong Kong. Here’s your chance to experience one here in Shenzhen. A day out in the ocean swimming, fishing, and drinking (of course). Sounds like a good time to me.

Oct. 27th – Shenzhen Dog Adoption Day – The first ever Shenzhen dog adoption day will be held Sunday October 27th at Haide Square. The event will feature an adoption site, free medical consultation, a charity flea market, and much more.

Oct. 27th – Sunday Ultimate Frisbee by the SZUPA – Join a growing group of expats and local Chinese players play the fast growing international sport: Ultimate.

Oct. 27th – Luna Sunday Cinema: Shaun of the Dead - Enjoy great food and classic movies at one of Shekou’s best bars, Luna Bar. This week’s scary movie: Shaun of the Dead
