Watch: Explosion in Guangzhou kills at least 4 and injures 14

An explosion at a warehouse on E Zhang Tan Road in Guangzhou’s Baiyun District at around 12 p.m. today has killed at least 4 and injured 14, The Daily Sunshine reported on its microblog. Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion occurred while a vehicle carrying dangerous goods was being unloaded.

The fire has now been brought under control.

The driver of the vehicle has not been identified and may be among the dead, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.

One eyewitnesses said he saw a limb on a nearby road and the smoke could be seen from hundreds of metres away. Students at a kindergarten in the vicinity are among the injured and the rest of the students have been rounded up in Tongde Park to be picked up by their parents.

Seventeen firetrucks rushed to the scene along with three command vehicles. Emergency services in Liwan District are helping with the rescue effort.

Bus routes 17、62、62A、71、and 524 were all temporarily halted. Xiwan Road was also blocked.
